plain and simple

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The dining room is plain and simple in January.

A vase of coral coloured roses graces the bureau.

The whale is a copper weather vane that once topped the roof of my mum's house.

We have the sea beyond the windows.

Dawn and twilight fill the room with resplendent light.

And in the evening if there's company the conversation sparkles.

There is the sea, great and wide!
In which are schools without number
of living things both small and great.

Family Friday

We had my in-laws visiting over the weekend.

My father-in-law treated us all to dinner on Monday night

and even invited my mum.

Joe's mum is on the left and mine is on the right.

I placed a woolen quilt on the bottom of our bed

and Tucker has made it his new favorite place for napping.

Well, one of them anyway. He's got a few little napping spots around the house.

I secretly wish I could nap as often as he does.

Saturday my mum and I went up to visit Bonnie and Dan and the kids.

My daughter, Hannah was there as well.

We were celebrating Bonnie's birthday which was Monday.

Verne absolutely loved the candy cake I got.

We had to pry him away from it and he was not happy.

Little miss Abigail Rose has her days and nights mixed up.

We were given all kinds of permission to wake her up

because they are trying to get her to sleep a bit longer at night.

At only just 3 weeks old she's still pretty sleepy though.

I had to be quick to get this photo of her eyes open.

Joe and I stopped at the fish market on Sunday and picked up some fresh Cod.

I cooked it simple with lemon, dill and a dusting of bread crumbs.

We got the table set in the kitchen and sat down with his parents

for a lovely and intimate dinner.

Tucker

Tucker has a few favorite spots around the house.

One of them is a sunny window in the kitchen.

He can survey the back part of the house from there.

In summer when the windows are open to the cooling breeze

we often hear him greeting us as we walk in from the car.

In winter the windows are closed up tight and battened down

but we still see him waiting for the car to pull into the driveway.

The ladies

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Though I cannot say it is a particularly flattering picture

of any of these beautiful ladies, I love it just the same.

The women in my family...excluding me, my sister, and my niece...

it is my mum, my daughter Hannah, holding my brand new

granddaughter, Abigail Rose, and my daughter Bonnie (Abigail Rose's mother.)

Four generations of women in my family.

Four generations of love.

The good

Sweet little Abigail Rose has decided to open her eyes for a moment

to see what all the fuss is about.

the fun

Verne and Abigail were having a little conversation together...

we don't know what was so funny...

because we're grown-ups now and have lost our childish ears.

the random

I made roast chicken, potato/cornbread stuffing, carrots broccoli rabe, and gravy.

It was mad crazy good and it looked pretty too.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Wonderful are your works;

my soul knows it very well.

Whist

is rather what my blog has been these last few weeks of the year.

I was in a car accident (our car was totaled) in mid-December.

No one was hurt but we have been car-less for almost a month now

and we live in a place where being car-less simply doesn't work.

We've had to leave quite early in the morning as our commute time

via Uber, via bus, via train takes twice as long!

We should have a car by the end of next week....yay!

It has all left little time for blogging

so I give you rather a conglomeration of  memories from the past two weeks or so.

My grandson got a drum set for Christmas.

He loved it!

I'm not sure if his parents will feel the same way by next month.

My husband (Verne calls him Hey-Joe)

got to meet little Abigail Rose for the first time on Christmas day.

These past few weeks there's been a busker at the Government center green line level

who sounds pretty good.

There has also been one on the blue line level

who sounds absolutely horrible!

I wait on the blue line level....

but I wish I was going someplace green.

We didn't have a white Christmas this year but we did get some snow flurries on Christmas Eve.

I love our little kitchen table.

It is so cheery to see with a milk-white vase of Christmas flowers.
