did they beat the drum slowly did they play the fife lowly

did they sound the death march as they lowered you down

did the band play the last post and chorus

did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

But here in this graveyard that's still no mans land

The countless white crosses in mute witness stand

To man's blind indifference to his fellow man

And a whole generation that were butchered and damned

Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord henceforth:
Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours;

Once she stood at this ancient cemetery

and watched the mist crumble away like broken down plaster

tawny lichen creeping through cracks in antique gravestones

honeysuckle scrambling over stone walls

in moments of madness she sees

ladies in tasseled dresses and gentlemen in fine hats

the spirits of mourners trapped here in the chill of a summer evening

in her more lucid moments she understood

that there is nothing as diverse as death

Short beach on Saturday
I took a photograph and then used an app on my phone to "paint" it.

the old coast guard station on this rather tiny island

Coast Guard often gets overlooked among the military forces

Here, we take them pretty seriously.

This building is on the National Treasure list. It was built in 1898. The Coast Guard gave it to the

town of Nahant when they stopped using it years ago. It's now used by the American Legion and

also for special events by the town and private functions.

It's a beautiful building

the fun

Saturday was almost 90 and the water was warm enough for swimming.

The beach had as many people as a mid summer's day

blankets spread, chairs at water's edge,  colourful umbrellas,

American and armed service flags set up in the sand

It's always fun at the beach

37,000 American flags to honor those that fell for freedom

here in the United States

waving in the Boston Commons all Memorial Day weekend.

the photo on the top left has a yellow rose petal

which a loved one tossed on the ground

to honor their fallen soldier.

It was very moving.

I am pretty excited to meet my first grandchild in October!

27 May

yesterday I took a walk to the Commons during my lunch hour.

37,000 flags had been placed to honor those who have fallen in defense of our freedom.

They will be removed before sunset on Memorial Day.

It was an amazing sight to see.

the weather has been beautiful.

I love being able to get outside and walk with the children at work.

~

This is the view from the cemetery down over the beach on Memorial day every year

on this rather tiny island.

It's one of my very favorite views in the world and I'm looking forward to the parade

on Monday so I can see it again.

I took this with my camera and used a watercolor app.

~

Monday is my daughter's birthday.

Since it's Memorial Day she has plans with friends so we will have to get together

one day next week to celebrate.

this is one from a few years ago.

Yesterday I walked the beach to the bank and picked up the bus to work

there instead of at my house.

20 May

My very, very favorite part of the week was

getting this picture of my grandson!

Isn't he just the cutest thing you ever saw!

Due to make his appearance in the world on 2 October.

Joe and I got married a few weeks ago.

We didn't have a ceremony.

We went to town hall and did everything right there

one Monday morning.

It was exactly as we both wanted it.

~
I came home last night to beautiful flowers from friends

in congratulations on our marriage.

The whole house smells heavenly this morning.

It is teacher appreciation month and we have been gifted with so many

wonderful things from the parents where I work.

I am a teacher in a toddler class and I love them to pieces

but it's hard work!

They tire me out and it's so nice to feel the appreciation the parents have.

~

It's beautiful out today! It's bright and sunny

and is expected to get into the mid 70s!

and....a bonus this week...

can I just say how happy I am that it's Friday.

I've had a bad cold all week and I'm so ready to relax a bit.

 I am yours

however distant you may be

there is no wind but wafts your scent to me

there is no bird but sings your name to me

Each memory that has left its trace on me

lingers forever as a part of me

For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ,
in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

12 May

of a morning at the bus stop

I live on a rather tiny island. We are connected to the mainland by a 2 mile causeway.

Every morning I wait across the street from my house for the bus

which takes me to the subway stop and into work.

Lately, I've been giving myself a little extra time to walk the beach.

It is such a calming and inspiring way to begin the day.

I walked the woodland on Beltaine....

which was pretty much the last time it wasn't raining and cold around here...

beautiful Periwinkle growing up an old oak tree

it will look so pretty in flower

tufts of bright green grass popping up at the edge of the trail

As I came out of the trail on onto the path homeward

I heard a woodpecker in the bullrushes pecking away
~
I am still loving my new job.

And, we were gifted with Red Sox tickets for teacher appreciation!

~
My mother is hosting a Mother's Day gathering on Saturday instead of Sunday.

My sister will be here from Connecticut and my daughters will be there as well!

Tuesday Afternoon

On May day I walked the woodland path

to where the stream bends and the trail curves around it

just there a patch of toadstools has popped up along the edges

I gathered some purple bugle flowers and bright yellow dandelions

along with some moss and lichen and a pretty little white flower

whose name escapes me...

I spend about an hour building little faerie houses and making pictures

in the wooded glen of an afternoon

I caught a picture of a robin eating a worm the other day!

It's not exactly in focus but it's still a pretty good action shot

and while I admit it probably wasn't the best of fun for the worm

the robin and I had fun!
