20 December

its beginning to look a lot like christmas

~

my daughter came over to watch It's a wonderful life

time is the most precious gift you can give to some one

~

i am ready to start shopping for gifts

i am giving every one candlesticks from the charity shop

along with pretty candles and a

photograph and poem

i may even bake a few things

~

i find that the older i get the more understated and simple i like things to be

next year i want to decorate our tree with just lights and some shells or pinecones

we had two snow storms last week

socked in don't leave the island or even the house kind of snowstorms

the first storm was a wintery mix so we don't have so very much snow

just enough to make every thing look like a magical fairy land

until it melts....and then we get the muddy slush

colors of the season

  6. Love the photo, but love your words more, you have a wonderfully, smooth way of conveying a picture with words. Have a very merry Christmas. ( a tree in just lights seems to be a good idea, yes simplicity)

  10. I love creating gifts out of simple things. I tried to make lots of little gifts this year to deliver friends. The kids are out of school for winter break today and I look forward to a weekend of old movies (I hope I can get them to sit still for them! :)

  11. I went up-Island early in the month to see a stage production of It's a Wonderful Life. It was a lovely way to start the season. Last night we had a snow storm and it will take some time for us to get out. We just don't get snow out here - last year we didn't get as much as a flake - so it's a shock and a bit of a trial. Our small municipality doesn't really have snow removal equipment, so we'll wait it out. The rain will come later today and wash it all away.

  21. I am glad to have my shopping done and ready to celebrate with my family. Off to their house to the east - it should be called the frozen north; tis always 20 degrees colder there.

  24. I love It's a Wonderful Life, My favorite version though is one that starred Marlo Thomas (actress) and was told from a female point of view. - Well we got a wintery storm today (so unexpected) and while it's pretty I don't like being out in it and still have shopping to do. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  27. It wouldn't be Christmas without watching "It's a wonderful Life". We are one storm ahead of you, but they are predicting 67 for Sunday. Was hoping for a little snow next week. Enjoy your shopping.

  29. Beautiful photo - love the giant wreath! You are right about time - and about wanting to simplify as we get older. Seems I am craving simplicity lately. Love your gift ideas - perfect. We had snow this morning, too. It is so pretty, but forces you to stay home. Which might be a good thing. :) Hope you have a lovely weekend. xo Karen

  34. What a fine vintage station in the snow. This photo is so peaceful. I think it conveys a simpler lifestyle, as you write about so beautifully. I like your idea of candles for gifts. Why give people something they don't need or want? Everyone can enjoy candles. I hope you have a wonderful holiday!
