12 September

bayberries

the bayberry bushes are loaded with berries

i've been to the path along the beach

i brought home

a little clipping in a small jelly jar

and set it on the kitchen table

the morning sun shines in through the window

lighting on the greenish grey berries

warming them just enough to perfume the house with their fragrance

bringing nature inside is one of my favorite things to do

    1. I'm not sure if these are the same type of bay leaves they use for seasonings.

  5. I love that she does this. I have always like the scent. But also because the very first time I kissed her we were both eleven years old and playing truth or dare in the middle of a huge Patch of Bayberry bushes. And I can still remember the smell of them to this day.

  6. I never made the connection between bayberries and bay leaves until this post! I'm not sure what todo with the berries, but sure would cook with the leaves!

  7. What a beautiful shot of the bayberries. I'm all for bringing elements of nature into the home... not to mention the sweet aroma that accompanies these natural elements.

    1. They have a wonderful scent. You may have smelled it before in bayberry scented candles.
